Joseph Charles Vecchio, 91 of Mullica Hill, NJ., born January 24, 1925 in Arkwright, NY, passed away Monday, February 8, 2016 at Chester Valley Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Paoli, PA.

Joe was a sergeant in the Army during World War II and had a long career in accounting with Cease’s Commissary in Dunkirk, NY and Interstate United in Cleveland, Chicago and Philadelphia. He was a member of the Catholic Community of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mullica Hill, NJ. He married Sara Mirusso on April 2, 1945, and together they raised six children.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara, his parents Joseph and Jennie Vecchio, and his four brothers John V. Vecchio, Vincent L. Vecchio, Lawrence Vecchio, Charles J. Vecchio, and two sisters Mary Rose (Vecchio) Rotunda and Rose Mary (Vecchio) Saccamano.

He is survived by his six children, Jay Vecchio of Garfield Heights, OH, Dale (Patricia) Vecchio of Belleville, IL, Neal Vecchio of Columbia, MD, Dean (Mary Jane) Vecchio of Mullica Hill, NJ, Kevin (Patricia) Vecchio of  Gainsville, VA, and Laurie Stanton of Berwyn, PA; six grandchildren, Shannon Sullivan of Cleveland, OH, Alexandra Elizabeth Vecchio of Washington, DC, Alissa Vecchio and Deanna Vecchio of Mullica Hill, NJ, Christopher Vecchio of Gainsville, VA, Timothy Vecchio of Seattle, WA, Jim Stanton of Berwyn, PA, and Tori Stanton of Berwyn, PA.

Visitation for family and friends Saturday, Feb. 13 from 9:30-10:30 am at the Catholic Community of the Holy Spirit, 17 Earlington Ave., Mullica Hill, NJ 08062, where Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 am. Burial will be held at Gloucester County Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Williamstown, NJ.

Memorials in Joseph’s name may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 50 Crestwood Executive Center, Suite 401, St. Louis, MO 63126.

I worked with Joe at Interstate United Corp in Chicago from 1972 to 1981. He was a class act, and I learned a lot from him both professionally and in life values. Very sorry to hear of his passing, and I wish his family all the best.
